PA 613 in 3D printing

PA 613 is a thermoplastic polyamide powder that can be used in a completely new way in SLS technology at FKM. The material is an ingenious further development that combines the best of PA 6 and PA 12. Its surface resolution and detail are excellent – making it ideal for beautiful surfaces in series production. The material is characterised by its greater strength, rigidity and chemical resistance. PA 613 is resistant to moisture and chemicals and retains its shape and dimensions even at higher temperatures.

Quest for Innovation

Significant energy savings due to lightweight LPBF components in aircraft

AMGTA has published a study on LPBF in aircraft manufacturing, conducted by the Golisano Rochester Institute of Sustainability of the Rochester Institute of Technology. According to Sherri Monroe, Executive Director of AMGTA, “For the first time, we are able to publish tangible results that demonstrate the importance of design in additive manufacturing compared to traditional processes. This study shows that additive manufacturing can have a very real impact in aircraft and engine design of the future and bodes well for the application of similar strategies in other industries and programs.”

New materials

PEKK-100 in the test phase

This high-performance polymer based on an unfilled PEKK has produced impressive test results. It has a higher elongation at break and impact strength while maintaining higher tensile strength than the carbon-fibre-filled material HT-23. PEKK-100 is particularly impressive at high operating temperatures in the range of 80–180°C. It has similar properties to injection-moulded 35% glass-fibre-filled polyamide 6 and is therefore ideal as a replacement for small series applications, especially in the automotive industry.
